A mysterious website has dropped today promoting the release of the upcoming Matrix Resurrections.

This website is one of the best marketing promotions I have seen for a movie. The website lets you choose either the red or blue pill, how very fitting. Whichever you choose, a 45 second ish trailer will play which showcases tiny snippets of the movie in the midst of the famous Matrix code with a narrator.

The best part is that whatever time you watch, the video will reference the time your watching at , its amazing. That means they recorded audio for every minute. It gets better, I found that if you watch the clips after a certain time passes, the video will have an new snippet that replaces an old snippet that you would have not seen before.

This just screams the Matrix, its perfect marketing material, showing how the matrix can show what it wants to show you at any given time while acknowledging your existence is part of a simulation. The hype for this film for me has reached fever pitch, I cannot wait the trailer on Thursday.

Certified Lover Boy Album Review 05/09/2021

Aubrey Graham better known as “Drake” is arguably the biggest star in music right now and he recently dropped his highly anticipated sixth studio album Certified Lover Boy. Boy oh boy I don’t know where to start with this one. I’m a Drake fan especially his old stuff (Take Care,NWTS), I even enjoyed More Life.

However, Drakes more recent catalogue has featured boring, lifeless repetitive projects. I’m talking to you ‘Views’ and ‘Scorpion’ , unfortunately CLB joins that catalogue.

When Laugh Now Cry Later released back in 2020, it generated a lot of hype for me. Then in my opinion Drake took two steps back with Scary Hours II with a hat-trick of mediocre tracks. And then the cover art was released…. In the words of Kanye West this is why Drake is a “Nerd Ass Jock”. I don’t think a cover artwork has made me cringe as much as this has.

Now onto the Album. Ill be honest I really struggled to finish it. The problem with this album is the same as scorpion’s. Most songs involve Drake sounding like he’s putting little to zero effort into it. Also, only Drake could get away with that lesbian line. The features were pretty underwhelming especially Baby, Hov & Durk who just decided to promote his girlfriends business which is hilarious.

I enjoyed the Travis Song a lot, him and Drizzy never fail together. I see a lot of hate for cudi’s feature but I personally enjoyed it, it probably helped that I was so shocked to see him on a Drake project after their beef and the fact this was released during Drake and Kanye’s war, with the latter being close friends with Scott.

Now I move onto the most controversial track…’Way 2 Sexy’ featuring Future and Young Thug. I was hoping for something like ‘D4L’ but with a Thug verse when I saw these three were collaborating again. When I first heard this song I hated it with a passion, the only redeemable quality was thug’s verse. That Right Said Fred sample was horrendous, a song I always hated as a kid. On the other hand, when the music video was released it somehow made the song more tolerable and now I find the hook stuck in my head constantly. This track has gone from the worst to one of the best on the album. Just goes to show that music videos have more power than you think. Don’t get me wrong the song is so bad its tolerable.

Overall this was a very poor album from one of Hip-Hop’s biggest stars. It felt like a chore to listen to and no album by a star of Drake’s magnitude (pop-pop) should be a chore. I can’t see any of the songs being added to my best of all time playlist, the songs I liked were just decent. However, I expect this to sell well though as Drake’s fanbase matched with his radio power is unrivalled at this present time with only Kanye West being able to match it.

Hungary vs England 02/09/21

England put on a professional clinic in a hostile environment showing Southgate’s men have gotten over their summer blues

• Sterling does it again
• A worrying sign for Tottenham fans
• Kalvin Phillips bosses it again
• Maguire showing how key he is for this England side

England showed their class in a game that will be unfortunately be remembered more because of the actions of the home supporters.

Raheem Sterling continued to show why he is one of England’s most important players after he scored and released an iconic celebration in which he payed tribute to a lost friend in front of the opposition fans whilst being showered by their drinks. The fact that England players rushed over to shield Sterling and the way Declan Rice and Jack Grealish pretended to drink from the cups, shows how likeable this team is.

I feel sorry for anyone who backed Kane to get a Hat-Trick. The Tottenham man had 4 clear cut chances that you feel the Harry Kane of last season, would have put away all of them. In fairness he scored a decent header but couldn’t capitalise by adding a further two goals. What was particularly frustrating was in the first half Kane kept moving over to the wing and crossing to the likes of sterling and Grealish who don’t pose as much of a threat compared to Kane aerially. In reality it should be the other way round. It seems to me Kane is not quite over his summer transfer saga and you wonder how long it will take for Kane to return to the prolific striker we know he can be.

Kalvin Philips once again bossed the midfield for England. He showed once again why he deserved to win the England’s player of the year award. Considering his selection for the Euros came under a lot of criticism, he has proved the doubters wrong time and time again. Against Hungary he made numerous interceptions one of which led to the second goal and retained the ball well.

Harry Maguire is a world class centre back. I will not accept any Maguire slander. If it was not for his hefty price tag and maybe not playing for United, Maguire would be held in a much higher regard. Any mistake how little it may be is ridiculed. With the rise of Luke Shaw, Maguire has become one of England’s biggest threats attacking wise, every game he seems to either score or come really close. Defensively he’s very solid, much more solid then his partner John Stones who had a rocky night. If Maguire had remained injured throughout the Euros like initially feared, England would not have made the final.

Barcelona: The Worst run club in football?

Bamboozling decision making by the Barca higher ups has turned one of the worlds footballing giants into a broken mess.

F.C Barcelona a famous club up there with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United in terms of reputation has seen quite possibly the worst ever summer for a club of its stature. The club has gone from footballing greats such as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to Martin Braithwaite and Luuk de Jong. No disrespect to the latter but there hardly anywhere near the same calibre as Suarez let alone Lionel Messi.

This Article will dive into the baffling decisions made by the club over the past few years and what lies for the future for this football giant quickly falling asleep.

#1 Antoine Griezmann

Post 2018 World Cup Antoine Griezmann’s stock was rapidly rising as he proved to be one of France’s key catalyst into winning footballs biggest prize. It was no shock that he got a move to Barcelona in the summer of 2019 for a figure over £100 million. Griezmann look set to be the one to fill in the hole left by Neymar but things haven’t quite turned out as expected with just 22 goals in 74 league appearances-(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoine_Griezmann). Not a great return in all honesty. The deal fueleed Barcelona already deep financial crisis which led to the club forcing Luis Suarez into the hands of their rivals. More on him later.

If the 2021 transfer window couldn’t get any madder, Griezmann completed a last minute loan deal to rivals Atletico Madrid. I’m sorry what? In what world does this make any sense? You loan your best attacking option to your title rivals (with a £40million option to buy clause) under the manager he thrived at during his initial spell. Griezmann look set to be the main man after Messi’s departure but the Catalan club looked desperate to cash in on offloading his wages than make him the centre star and actually give him a chance at repaying his +£100 million fee. A ludicrous decision in my opinion.

#2 The Arthur-Pjanic Deal

This deal was done purely for business reasons than footballing reasons. Arthur a 23 year old with time to progress was swapped with 30 year old Pjanic. Pjanic was by no means a bad player but he was not a player who would be apart of the long term future of the club like Arthur could have been. Juventus came out easy winners of this deal because they had a player they had time to become a key member of the squad and had resell value. Arthur only cost around £9million taking into account the difference between the two fees meaning Barca lost around £28 million after signing him from Gremio for £40 million.

#3 Lionel Messi

Barcelona have seem to have developed a bad habit of giving players ridiculous contracts. Lets start with Lionel Messi. Undoubtedly the clubs most valuable player by a long shot. In 2017 Barcelona decided to give him a new contract where he would earn over £1,000,000 a week. This seemed to start the trend of the club giving high contracts to players because the agents saw the Messi deal as a way of the club flaunting their wealth and so found it easy to negotiate a higher salary for the club. If you want to pay him that much fine but don’t have 10 other players on +£100,000 a week contracts. It’s quite evident how Barca ran into there financial problems so quickly. Negotiating Messi’s contract was so crucial to the presidency that Bartomeu was willing to give him anything to get him to sign on the dotted line. As evident with the recent transfer window, Messi clearly adores the club and even agreed to a 50% pay cut. Barca surely could have negotiated a lower contract with Messi extension in 2017 as leaving the club would be the last resort An example of poor negotiating.

#4 Other Contracts

When I first came across Barcelona wages I was gob smacked. So many ridiculously high contracts. Francisco Trincao a 20 year old on £140,000 a week. This was a teenager who is a decent player but not someone who set the world on fire. It just makes no sense to me why he is on that much. Ousmane Dembele was a young player who had an exciting debut season with Dortmund. This was enough for Barcelona to throw an astonishing £100 million at the 20 year old along with a lovely £212,000 a week contract. An ageing Mirelem Pjanic given £271,000 a week shows how desperate they were to offload Arthur. Giving the backup goalkeeper £105,000 a week was ludicrous. Whoever decided to given championship striker Martin Braithwaite £105,000 a week should be sacked.

Barcelona are one of the most prestigious clubs in the world with the best player in the world at the time of when these contracts were signed. There was no need to offer high contracts especially to the younger talent. Again poor negotiating skills form the Barca Board.

#5 Emerson Royal

This was an embarrassment of a transfer saga. Barcelona joint bought the player with Real Betis in January 2019 but became a permanent Betis player in July 2019. Barca exercised the buy out clause of just £9 million this transfer window to make him a Barcelona player. Due to not being able to register their players due to their inflated wage bill, Emerson was sold on deadline day of the same window for a fee around the £20,000,000 mark. Barcelona may have made a profit on the player but in doing so lost a promising young right back for a weak profit in all honesty and just made themselves look foolish and desperate. The Emerson Royal saga of 2021 paints the picture of how badly of a turn Barcelona have taken in recent years.

#7 Giving Ansu Fati #10 shirt

This one is harsh. Ansu Fati has the potential to be a top player. However, he’s been gifted the #10 shirt worn by the legendary Lionel Messi. He now has the enormous pressure to fill Messi’s boots all because the shirt number he’s wearing. Pressure that has killed player careers such as Bojan, Fernando Torres and Alexandre Pato. Ansu could prove me wrong but only time will tell.

#8 The Luis Suarez Debacle

Luis Suarez a notorious figure in the world of football, along with being one of Barcelona best players of all time was forced out of the club into the hands of their rivals against his will in a move which has haunted Barca ever since. Suarez guided Atletico Madrid to the league title while Barca finished a measly 7 points behind in third. Suarez departure was a result of the club doing anything to keep Messi by affording his wages in the midst of a financial crisis.

DONDA Album Review 30/08/2021

Donda is the 10th Studio Album by one of if not the greatest musical artists of all time. I’ve followed Kanye throughout his career and was overjoyed to see him finally drop one of his most anticipated albums on the 29th August after numerous delays. After multiple listening parties, last minute changes and fired shots at Drake, the album finally arrived at 1pm on Sunday the 29th August.

The album is dedicated to Kanye’s late mother Donda West who was a prominent and influential figure for Kanye throughout his life. Off the back of this album its safe to say Kanye made his mother proud.

Kanye delivers one of his most catchy albums to date with tracks like Moon, Jesus lord, Jonah, Off the grid delivering infectious hooks that will replay in your head for days. Donda is really good at showing ye’s versatility whether it be riding on a drill beat on “off the grid” or pouring his heart out on “come to life”there really is something for every Kanye fan.

What makes Kanye stand out from his the rest is he clear impact on the artists he works with. Every feature feels like they want to be on the album by putting their heart and souls into it. Most tracks these days feature verses just sound like there doing it to cash a pay check but you don’t get that sense from Donda instead you feel the artists have a sense of pride and privilege to be apart of this album that will be remembered for years. Even looking at the reactions of artists who didn’t make the cut (Soulja Boy, Chris Brown) shows how much people wanted to be apart of the album as they knew how big this album would have been.

A song I wanted to focus on was “Jesus Lord” featuring Jay Electronica. The song is heart breaking as we hear Ye’s sorrows over his mother’s loss and how much he still misses her to this day. Lines such as “if I talk to Christ, can I bring my mother back to life?” and ” if I die tonight, will I see her in the afterlife”? epitomises how much Kanye wants to reunite with her and questions whether he has lived a good enough life to join her in the afterlife. This song hits home for those who fear one day losing loved ones.

The Album is not perfect by any means especially towards the end of the album where the pt2 tracks are introduced which feel unnecessary and do not really add much to the album. Other tracks especially towards the middle of the album don’t live up to the high standards of the first portion of the album.

Its evident your usual music review websites are not focusing on the music but rather the people involved or events leading up to the album, notably including DaBaby & Marilyn Manson and the beef between ye and Drake. Therefore giving Kanye latest album a low score without real explanation musically. This sums up modern day music review websites. Music should be judged by the music not by the person no matter how controversial the artists is. With the album set to debut with 300K+sales its clear us “regular people” have a clear different opinion on this album to these so called music “experts”.

Matrix Resurrections: Will it live up to the hype?

The hit Sci-fi franchise is set to gain its fourth instalment this December.

Introduction

When the Matrix dropped in the summer of 1999, the film blew audiences away and changed the industry forever with it being copied and parodied to pure saturation by the year 2021. The Matrix 1999 is my favourite film of all time, the film has jaw dropping action sequences and the greatest movie villain of all time in Agent Smith portrayed to perfection by Hugo Weaving. By the year 2003 the Matrix had two sequels under its belt to a mixed reception amongst fans and critics. These two films I loved more than the original at a point until recent rewatches show the original is above the other two strong entries in the franchise. The sequels are misunderstood in my opinion but that’s for another article. There will be spoilers for the previous films but you wouldn’t be on this article if you had not already watched them.

The Story

In short, the story is about the war for freedom between humans and machines. The machines controlled the humans by plugging them in (quite literally) into the matrix, a simulation of the real world in which the humans believed they were living their normal lives, that is until they are unplugged and shown their true nightmare of a reality by the human resistance fighters led by Morpheus. Our hero Neo is unplugged by Morpheus and the three films follow his journey meeting various programs in the Matrix which are out to help or kill him as he looks to help the humans and machines find peace. The ending of Revolutions sees our protagonist Neo finally defeating his arch nemesis Agent Smith in a epic showdown which leaves Neo presumed dead in the machine world whilst Zion is saved…for now.

Four too many?

When I heard the news of a fourth movie, I had mixed feelings of excitement but curiosity. I thought the final film ended perfectly, the only way I would have wanted any future films would have been a new story in the new matrix without Neo, Trinity and Smith. Its confirmed that Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne-moss are reprising their roles as the now famous duo so it leaves me questioning where do they go from here without replicating the same story told by its predecessors.

I have a few ideas:

• This a whole new reboot of the Matrix created at the end of revolutions. As we know from Reloaded there were 7 previous incarnations of “the one”.
• The real world is just another Matrix that Neo escapes from
• Trinity died in reloaded and is a clone created by the machines
• The film takes place in Neo’s head after his “death” explaining how Trinity is still alive

Where is Lawrence Fishburne?

The rollout of the film has been mysterious, little is known about the plot and their has been no trailer as of today. All that is known is the casting which strangely does not include Lawrence Fishburne reprising his role as the famous Morpheus character. This may be because Morpheus is assassinated in the failed MMO the Matrix online which is considered canon.

Instead Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been casted and has been rumoured to play a younger version of Morpheus. I do not feel this is the end of Lawrence Fishburne time as Morpheus but rather he was told to say he was not invited to the re-join the Matrix cast by Lana Wachowski.

With Lambert Wilson reprising his role as the devious Merovingian, I feel he will have a part in Morpheus fate. My thought is that he is holding Morpheus prisoner like the Keymaker leading to a final reveal which sets up the next film. I can’t see Lana killing off one of her most famous characters in a failed online game it just seems like such a waste. Think about it he is the only main character to not reprise his role, to me it makes little sense. Agent Smith didn’t need to comeback as his story came to a satisfying conclusion in Revolutions. Such a reveal would be less impactful if he was announced before the film was shown,

UPDATE: After watching the snippets released it seems that the Matrix online is remaining canon and that Morpheus was killed and is being resurrected or “morphed” into a younger version played by Yahya Abdul Mateen II. This won’t be confirmed until the movie releases of course

Conclusion

I already know I have overhyped this film to the extreme to myself which should result in inevitable disappointment however, I just cant help feeling something is not going to be right for this film. I’m concerned about the story as the last thing I want is for it to make the previous films pointless. As I rate the first 3 films so highly, I’m not sure if this can entry can reach those levels especially since it seems we have seen everything their is to see in the action genre since revolutions hit the screens in 2003. My prediction is that the film will be solid movie but will not have the same power as the first 3 instalments. I hope I’m wrong as I’m not sure if I have mentioned this before but The Matrix is my favourite franchise of all time.

UPDATE: The snippets alone have sky rocketed my hype, I like the modernised cinematography look of it all. The amount of questions that the teasers have generated just increase my intrigue immensely.

My Most Anticipated Movies of 2021-2022

The Batman

Release Date: 4th March 2022

Cast: Robert Pattinson/Zoe Kravitz/Colin Farrell

Robert Pattinson debut as the big bad bat. From the initial trailer this looks to be quite the gritty violent instalment of the Dark Knight franchise. With the Riddler and the Penguin being the main antagonists the Batman should be an entertaining watch at the very least . There’s something about this film which seems very intriguing maybe its having seen Robert Pattinson in twilight and wondering if he can don the black cape to the same success as Christian Bale.

James Bond is back and Daniel Craig last hurrah as the British super spy is nearly upon us after numerous delays and production issues. After a disappointing (but overhated) Spectre, No Time to Die carries on 5 years after the conclusion of its predecessor and has an interesting bond villain choice in the form of Rami malek who insists he is a different type of bond villain. Add that with the usual stellar performance from Craig, wild shootouts and explosive set pieces, then we should be in for a wild ride.

Jackass Forever

If you ever want to cry with laughter watch the jackass films, there utterly hilarious if you like people doing stupid stunts and putting their bodies through unnecessary pain. I was surprised to hear that would be a fourth considering the time gap and the fact the cast are all much older. I expect the stunts to be toned down a notch but a Jackass film is a Jackass film so expect a barrel of laughs.

As a big fan of the original blade trilogy (especially the second one) I was super hyped when they announced a reboot amidst the marvel hysteria of 2019. However, I was a little disappointed when I found out Wesley Snipes was not reprising his role as the iconic vampire slaying hero. However Mahershala Ali is an excellent replacement with brilliant performances in Moonlight and True Detective. My only fear for this film is that its given a PG13 rating seeing as its joining the MCU. I eagerly await further details on this project.

This Ladies & Gentleman is my most anticipated movie since Endgame. The Matrix (spoilers) is my favourite film of all time and yes (more spoilers) I love the sequels. You can imagine my excitement when I heard there was a fourth instalment with the same cast. I’ve followed every update possible from set pictures to casting to reddit rumours. Its frustrating but also intriguing that there is little information released to the public but I for one will be there on night one for the release of this blockbuster

Dwayne Johnson as a superhero or antihero is a long time coming. Black Adam has been long awaited for many DC fans including myself. Expect this film to dive into the origin hero of this antihero who in the words of Johnson himself said his character has “his own sense of Black Adam Justice”. The film follows Black Adam’s escape from purgatory after being imprisoned by shazam for abusing his powers. I expect this to be a solid addition to an improving DC filmography.

The month of December is looking really stacked for potential great movies.
